This may be a niche topic, but recently as well, I had the privilege to work with the new Shopify Update for their fulfillment API.

Read more here.

I will be covering only a fraction of all that Shopify has for their customers and partners.

Shopify Fulfillment

Here is a visual of how location is attached to the inventory items. Product Variant is the different sizes, and colors of a product.

A question I get often is, can I have an item at multiple locations, which didn’t exist until a June 2022 Shopify release and this feature is called Sku Sharing. This allows customers to use multiple fullfillment apps and within those apps, can be various warehouses.

The significance is when customers need to switch warehouses, it’s important that they strategically switch the locations within the Shopify settings. This can look by changing the default location and then deactivating that original location depending on what that 3rd party company looks like. (Excuse the typo of location)

This is where it asks the user to switch the stock to another location.
There can also be another setting that’s called ‘Multiple Locations’

Users can also do this at the item level as well. But for other larger customers, it best to do it in a ‘bulk action’ manner.

Like I said earlier, this only covers a small window of all that Shopify has to offer and I will continue to update as I work with it more.
